Each year, the Cape Atlantic Conservation District, in cooperation with New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts, sponsors an annual Poster Contest. The contest is sponsored each year by the District to help promote a better understanding of the environmental issues in Atlantic and Cape May Counties.

The theme varies from year to year, and is selected in coordination with the National Association of Conservation Districts. The contests are an opportunity for students to explore various natural resource conservation issues, and are a good way for teachers to meet New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards in Science, Social Studies and Visual Arts.

The poster contest is open to students in grades 2-12.  Click here for the Poster Contest information brochure and entry form.  District staff is available to make a presentation to your students about the topic.  Please contact  David Reilly at (609) 625-1517 for more details.

The 2009 theme was "Dig It - The Secrets of Soil". Designing a poster and researching the theme can give you a voice in your community on important conservation issue. Good posters tell important stories to present and future generations. Posters capture people's attention with a powerful graphic and share an inspiring message with your community.

There is much to learn about soil. Almost all of the minerals and nutrients we need for life, to nurture us, to help us grow, to give us energy and keep us healthy come from fields, gardens, trees and pastures. Every plant, vegetable, or fruit that we eat gets its nutrients from the soil in which it grows. Your home is built on soil; the type of soil used is very important.

The next contest will begin in the Fall of 2010. No topic has been picked yet for the 2010 contest. Please visit our website later for updates.
